Bandra-Worli Sea Link

I was watching the news today and they mentioned the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. What? It’s not yet completed? That’s late. That’s pretty late because the project was supposed to be done by 2004. It’s 3 years later now and the new estimated due date is the end of next year. But looking at the way things are happening, I wonder if mid 2009 would be more appropriate.

This sea link bridges the hours of traveling from Bandra to Worli, thus minimizing the time to 15mins. The estimated budget was Rs 500 crores but as expected with politicians and bureaucrats and other middle men, the sea link has already grossed a whooping Rs 1,306 crores.

The Bandra-Worli Sea link would be an 8 lane, ‘shortcut’ to the other side of town, with 2 lanes dedicated to buses. It would have two toll nakas. Let’s hope it get completed soon…whenever that may be.

  • There was a docu on one of the channels showcasing how the bridge is being built. It was pretty impressive. The guys have to fight the bureaucrats and also mother nature. They have to time the daily work as per the tides. They were supposed to have a restaurant and a watch tower for people but have scrapped it due to security hazards.

  • It’s not even half done. Around 5-10% is done. I know this coz I am kinda regular visitor of the place u know 😛 haha
