I heard on tv that it took China about 10 years to prepare for the Olympics. I wonder if India would be able to host them…ever. Anyway, I hope we win some medal.

Cheers to the spirit of Olympics and the message it brings out ‘One World, One Dream’.

It was a historic moment, unlike anything that this city has known. Our 20-20 heroes touched base in Mumbai, this morning, to receive a hero’s welcome. They travelled atop an open air bus, for their own ‘Vijay Yatra’ (victory parade), from the International Airport to Wankhede stadium. Mumbai was flooded with people, singing, cheering, bursting crackers, waving the national flag, showering flowers and following their bus in spite of heavy rains. The cricketers seemed to be enjoying this moment too and did not show any signs of fatigue, considering they were still jet lagged and they spent more than 5 hours on the bus. It was almost like everything had come to a standstill.
Quite a euphoric welcome

My friend Gautam was there at Marine Drive to witness this event. He was standing at a particular spot for almost 2 hours. When the bus came, was thrown away from Marine Drive right up to Wankhede stadium within a few seconds. He says that it was almost like a storm and millions of people came gushing into him. It seems more than 15 lac people were on the roads today to experience this once in a life time procession. Here are some of the pictures that Gautam clicked. Thanx, buddy!

We won the finals of the 1st ever 20-20 Cricket World Cup. We defeated Pakistan by 5 runs in a close, neck to neck match in South Africa today. Captain Dhoni and his team of young guys have made us proud which no one thought was possible.

Everyone was at the edge of their seats with their heart in their mouth. It could’ve been anyone’s game. As it is, all India-Pakistan matches are high energy and tension packed.

Now that we have won, it’s almost a Diwali-like atmosphere here, everyone’s celebrating and very excited. There are fireworks in the sky and your’s truly is also jumping around like a frog People are out on the roads, on bikes, in cars…everywhere, celebrating India’s victory.

Indian cricket team di balle balle! Chak deeya, India!

It was practiced by the Brazilian slaves when they were shipped to Portugal – way back in the 16th century. Since these slaves were prohibited from practicing martial arts, they devised a method which looked like dance. So Capoeira is a fight-dance. The amphitheater area at Carter Road had a group of young people demonstrating this art. It was fun to watch - music, dance, a lovely breeze and the amazing sea – bliss

What more can I say? Now, our hopes are on Bermuda’s win. Ok, so when we cheered for India, we lost. Now should we support Bermuda? But is it really worth going into the Super 8? True, had we qualified, this post, those many nasty anti cricket jokes and the people’s wrath would have not been seen. It’s just a game, isn’t it? I think too much emphasis has been given to cricket in our country. Why is no other sport as important? Atleast now with this kick-in-the-butt, the team should realize what needs to be done, instead of modelling for ads. As for the common janta, take interest in some other sport! Don’t get me wrong, I’m just a victim of shattered world cup dreams, too.

Football mania has taken over this world and very rightfully so. The World Cup is on and is definitely prviding great entertainment to all fans around (yours truly included). I wonder who will take home the cup.

We (India) didn’t qualify, someday we would. Someday, people like me won’t give up on the game. Oh ya but that’s my story….

I was a very weak and feeble kid in school. I never took part in any sports or athletic events. If asked to run a class race, I would stand last or second last. I enjoyed watching sports and the only sport that I ever excelled in was hop-scotch! That’s how good I was. Probably it was my laziness or maybe I was never cut out for sports.

But we all have our moments of truth….moments of realization. Moments when we feel that we are dillusioned by our failures and lack of performance. Ok, hold it, I am referring to my set back in sports. This feeling grew so strong that one day, I decided to give a shot at football. I gathered a team of huge, dull, non-interested- in- sports people (girls, I am from a convent school) and pepped them up to play football. The lazy bum that I was, I refused to run across the field chasing the ball and decided to become the goal keeper. Afterall, what does a goal keeper do? Stand in a highly glorified piece on the field, look at all the players runing around and he/she only stops the ball from entering the goal post. Easy! Piece of cake!

So, here it was- Whistle and the game started. Less that 10 seconds in the game, some crazy girl kicked the ball towards me. Time to prove myself, my moment of truth. I saw the ball coming towards me and leapt to catch it. Isn’t that what I was supposed to do? The ball came in so fast, I mis judged it and it ended up bouncing against my stomach! OUCH! That hurt! No, I couldn’t move, I was floored. Some girls helped me up and I was declared ‘Out Injured’. Thus ended by glorious career in football.

Perhaps, it was true. I was never meant for sports. I should stick around with something a little less dangerous…which provide less chances of running into huge and heafty people chasing objects around the field. But as I watch the World Cup, I can only think and imagine the kind of committment, passion and love people have for football or for that matter any other sport. Hats off to them! As they say -Joga Bonito!
