It’s been long since my band sent any update. Well, we’ve been busy doing our own shit and cleaning it.

Kashif
Kashif is back in USA doing his PhD. Having a doctor in the band is greatly needed to cover up for his lack of talent. We miss his whining and his Wii (kidding about the latter)

Tarun
Tarun got his hand injured and now keeps admiring those 20 stitches that he got..daily. He is also trying to play the guitar with his left hand. He is back to the good old days of making string noises

Amjad
Amjad got his arse into trouble..like a real lot of trouble. He is recuperating well.

Shibani
Shibani just keeps getting eccentric. She is in Morgan Freeman mode. She watches 14 episodes of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ in one day.

Bharath
Bharath got back from USA the day Kashif left. He works for a huge brand but he can be seen doing nothing at home for most of the time.

We’ll be back with more news soon.

Long live fish curry (until it gets stale and has to be trashed).

Cheers!

Mom and I went to Globus today to watch Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. I have always loved that place. The shopping and the cinema area bring back memories of times to be cherished.

I liked the movie. It was one of those rare flicks that make me not make a face at Shah Rukh Khan. Anoushka Sharma was ok, quite raw, I could say. Some moments were boring, others completely crappy and stupid but some were really sweet. I think girls would like this movie much better than the boys. It touched it chord somewhere

Went for a play called JAZZ at Prithvi Theatre with Bharath and his mom. Aunty is a darling

Excerpts from the Prithvi Theatre newsletter

The play, based on the research of Naresh Fernandes, is written by Ramu Ramanathan and directed by Etienne Coutinho. It is a wonderful explosion of a rich musical genre. An Indian jazz player in a retrospective mood recounts his life to his shagird. The scenes after his death are projected on a big screen behind. People who came into his life talk about him while he comments on their reactions. The play talks about a genius who could not establish himself. It is a story of a man who lives in nostalgia, one who loves to love. The character symbolizes the cultural anxieties and relative isolation of the Christian community in the 50s and 60s. At another level, it is also the universal story of an artist who refuses to compromise his artistic integrity.

Jazz is a very well written and and very well directed play. The audience is floored by the sheer brilliance of the performance. It’s a slice of that era brought alive through its music. It comes out so naturally that we are not overwhelmed by all the details. The performances of Bugs Bhargava and Rhys Dsouza were pretty impressive. Music and script compliment each other and merge so well as to be indistinguishable.

Had a wonderful evening. Also, have become a fan of Dave Brubeck’s Take Five

I’m zonked! I’ve found a new addiction and its LOST. By LOST, I mean the popular TV series starring Mathew Fox, Evangeline Lily, Naveen Andrews, etc. (I never bothered watching before). Like I’ve always said, I’m not a t.v. person but now this show has got me completely hooked. We’ve got our hands on season 1′s DVDs. It’s a 4 part collection and I saw 1 of the DVDs when I was home, sick last week. Making most of my precious Saturday night, I saw yet another DVD and then another. So, basically, I’ve spent most of my Sunday watching LOST, episode by episode, enjoying all the action, drama, suspense and all the stuff that makes a GOOD television series.

By the way, I also went to a nearby Multiplex to watch ‘Bheja Fry’. As soon as the movie started, the lights went out. At first I thought it was some innovative promotional stunt but then we sat in the audi for 1/2 hour waiting for the lights to come and everyone got restless. Finally, the current got back and the movie resumed. It’s a must watch for all ages, Vinay Pathak was at his best and you’d love to hate him as an ‘idiot’.

Coming back to the loss of electricity bit, I think there will be more load shedding in the days to come. Already, it’s so hot – global warming, eh? That also reminds me, today is Earth Day. Save the earth, save existence!
